Information about disposal and recycle of used batteries

No batteries of any type, shape or size can be disposed of with household waste! As a consumer you are required by law to return used batteries.

Batteries contain substances that are harmful to our environment and to our health when disposed of improperly. This is why batteries are always marked with the symbol of a crossed-out garbage can on wheels (see below). They also contain important raw materials and metals, such as iron, zinc, manganese or nickel, which can be reobtained through recycling.

Under the German Law on the Sale, Return and Environmentally Sound Disposal of Batteries and Accumulators, we as a trader are obligated to take back the products we sell (Batteriegesetz/BattG of 25/6/2009, German BGBI. I p. 1582, implementing Battery Directive 2006/66/EC). We therefore collect used batteries and transfer them to the German GRS Batterien Foundation for proper disposal.

You can return used batteries to us free of charge. Please send them along with a short note (e.g. "for disposal") to:

ENERdan GmbH
Max-Planck-Str. 7
D-12489 Berlin
Germany

Of course, you can also send or bring your batteries to your local recycling center. Please contact your local authorities for more information on where to dispose of your batteries properly.

The Garbage Can Recycling Symbol
Watch out! Rechargeable batteries do not belong in the trash! You are obligated by law to return used or defective batteries to your retailer or to a local recycling center.

Please note that you should find the chemical name of the pollutant contained in the battery under the garbage can symbol:

  • Cd: battery contains cadmium
  • Hg: battery contains mercury
  • Pb: battery contains lead
